The BFI will be releasing The Werner Herzog Collection on 25th August, and will be available in 8 Blu-ray and 10 DVD box sets. The collection comprises of 18 films from the maverick German director, and features digitally remastered High Definition presentations of classics such as 'Fitzcarraldo', 'The Enigma Of Kasper Hauser', 'Nosferatu, The Vampyre' (the English and German language versions), 'Aguirre, Wrath Of God' and some of the director's acclaimed short films. Fans of 'Fitzcarraldo' will be delighted by the inclusion of Les Blank's 'Burden Of Dreams', and this collection also includes the legendary South Bank Show on Herzog and an audio Guardian lecture.
I'm currently viewing and writing about all the films and features in the collection, including commentary tracks featuring Herzog and Norman Hill. I'm happy to report that image and sound quality are first rate in what could well be the Home Video release of the year, as far as the UK is concerned. My review will be up before the end of this month. In the meantime, here's the BFI trailer as a taster for this most important release.
